Maria
Marewski
Founding Director (in 1994) and Executive Producer of
the Children's Media Project, Maria Marewski is an award
winning filmmaker who has taught at the University of
Maryland, Hunter College, and Vassar College. Maria has
served as a panelist or presenter for numerous
committees, conferences and film festivals. She has
presented at national conferences, including Grant
makers in the Arts, Coalition for Essential Schools, and
the National Media Education Conference; and she has
crated (since 1999) the Youth Media Program for The
Hampton's International Film Festival.
As
the producer for Children's Media Project's Production
House, Ms. Marewski has produced numerous educational
media projects in collaboration with community partners
including: Smokescreens: From Outrage to Activism
(media literacy based anti-tobacco use textbook) with
the Children’s Health Initiative of Dutchess County;
Please Stand Up, (series of web based live action
vignettes) with the New York State Center for School
Safety; He Said, She Said: Sexual Abuse and Violence
Prevention in collaboration with Vassar College for the
Department of Justice; Shadow hood: A Hero’s Journey in
collaboration with the Youth Resource Development
Corporation for the New York State Department of Labor.
Current projects include video research projects with
the Poughkeepsie Institute (collaborations among
students from 5 local colleges and universities); Active
Youth, Healthy Media, a youth targeted, media literacy
based, anti-obesity textbook and DVD for the Children’s
Health Initiative, and numerous community based project
in the Hudson Valley region.
As
Executive Producer Maria is looking forward to
increasing CMP's repertoire of professional productions.
